Ambition
Our goal is to instill in pupils the knowledge and skills they need to make sense of the world around them and revel in its wonders. We work to give all pupils the tools they need to effectively question results and provide hands-on practical experiments making use of the school’s inspiring indoor and outdoor learning spaces.
Our Eco Curriculum works to inspire our pupils to live healthy and fulfilled lives, becoming citizens of the world and making a contribution towards a more sustainable future for all.
Implementation
We follow a three step system of science: Knowledge, Depth and Review.
We firstly give our pupils time to acquire, explore and understand new areas of scientific knowledge allowing them to make links to other areas of work and other areas of science.
After this process they then solidify their understanding through science investigations which are carefully planned or guided to make sure children take part in engaging and innovative work.
As children move to Key Stage 2 they have more independence on the areas they wish to investigate. In addition to this we deliver ecologically aware ‘green’ units to grow awareness of environmentally important concepts.
Our children experience exciting, creative and fun opportunities through the many visitors and investigations they participate in during science lessons, celebration days and science week. Our ongoing assessments make sure all pupils are progressing effectively against their expectations and outcomes for each year group, while all pupils leave us with a heightened ecological awareness and a strong sense of environmental responsibility.
